NEW YORK LIMOUSINE ACCIDENT KILLS 4 AND INJURES OTHERS

|An accident that occurred on July 18 around 5 p.m. in the North Fork area of Long Island resulted in the deaths of four young women and injured four others when a pickup crashed into the limousine in which they were riding. The truck driver was initially charged with misdemeanor DWI and arraigned at a local hospital with a $1 million bond. Results of a toxicology test have not yet been reported. According to the district attorney for Suffolk County, charges might be upgraded as a result of such test.
The fatal accident reportedly happened as the limousine was making a U-turn when it was struck by the pickup, driven by a 55-year-old man from Southold. Reportedly, the driver of the pickup remained at the accident site for a short time and then left, climbing a fence and heading down an embankment. He was pursued by police officers who returned him to the accident site.
The young women had been visiting a winery and took a limousine rather than drive because they had been drinking. The accident resulted in the death of three women at the accident site and a fourth at the hospital. The limousine driver, pickup driver and remaining four women were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The surviving family members who have lost a loved one in an accident due to the negligence of another driver may find it helpful to speak with an attorney to see if there is any recourse available. Legal counsel might review accident reports and other evidence to determine fault and file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family. Damages that can be sought in such an action could include funeral and burial expenses and other amounts permitted by the applicable state statute.
