JEEP RUNS INTO CROWD NEAR COYNE PARK, KILLING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
Oct 15, 2013 | Pedestrian Accidents |
|Police are still looking for answers in the deadly auto-pedestrian accident that claimed the life of one and injured four more when a driver in a Jeep drove straight into a crowd of people near the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Yonkers. For the victims and their families, not knowing the who and why of the accident has likely left them with a sense of injustice as well as searching for what to do next.
Prior to the accident, witnesses say the driver backed out of a parking space nearby at a very high rate of speed, hitting several cars in the process. The driver then put the vehicle into drive and hit several more cars before crashing into the crowd of people. This incredibly reckless behavior caused four people to suffer serious injuries, two of which are reported to be in very critical condition. They were both taken to local hospitals along with two other victims who received less severe injuries in the pedestrian accident.
At this time, only one person was killed in the accident: a 15-year-old girl whose name has not been released to the public yet. Much like the surviving victims and their families, this girl’s family is probably looking for answers from police to help them take the next steps in the grieving process. Because of the costs associated with such serious accidents — hospital bills, burial costs, rehabilitation, and even burial costs — the victims may be entitled to compensation from the negligent driver. Information from a completed police investigation can help strengthen their case, which can be used to seek justice in the end.
