1 dead, 1 injured in New York car crash
1 DEAD, 1 INJURED IN NEW YORK CAR CRASH

On Dec. 28, a car accident in the state of New York left one person dead and one person with serious injuries, according to news reports. The crash took place on State Route 17 in Mamaking, located about 85 miles northwest of New York City. Authorities reported that Sullivan County dispatchers received calls about a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes of the state road. Following the calls, troopers arrived at the scene of a crash that had occurred near exit 113. It appeared that a 24-year-old man was driving a Hyundai Sonata east in the westbound lanes he collided head-on with a 2006 Volkswagen.
The driver on the Hyndai died following the crash while the 24-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen, a resident of Vestal, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. He was transported to Hackensack Medical Center for treatment. It was unclear if investigators believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, and the report did not state whether any blood tests were conducted.
Car accidents can occur at any time, no matter how carefully a driver is operating their vehicle. Common collision injuries can include broken bones, damage to internal organs and even amputations. If a driver or a passenger becomes injured in a crash that is caused by another person, the injured person may potentially file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver who was found to be liable.
Those injured on New York roads may choose to seek compensation for medical bills and property damage sustained as result of the collision. If the at-fault driver died in the crash, the plaintiff may be able to name the deceased person’s estate as the defendant.
